Top 5 things KIDS should wear to a headshot session.

Often parents message anxiously asking what to bring for their child to wear, but I’m telling you right now, in my opinion kids have it the easiest in terms of what to wear. Kids clothing options are BANANAS nowadays, not to mention super affordable. Here are 5 things to bring that will 100% up your child’s headshot game.

***Keep an eye out as you’re reading through these because a lot of the tips can be combined for top notch headshot looks!

1. Jackets: I love a layered look, it just always feels more put together to me. Jean jackets are always great, but don’t sleep on a sporty look as well. Not only do they look cool, it gives a kids something to do with their hands as well :)

2. Sweaters with texture. Cable-knit and fuzzy are two of my favourites, but there are all kinds of options out there. Think about it like this, we’re trying to create points of interest in the image, so a good subtle texture just adds another layer of interest for the viewer. See some of the images in the last tip as well, sweaters AND jackets, WHAT?!?! Total winning combination.

3. Simple tops with pops of colour. Colour is the best. I LOVE COLOUR. And often colour works best when it’s used to accent an image and really make it POP!

4. Patterns. Again, we’re trying to create points of interest here and the right pattern can do the trick. My advice when looking at patterned stuff is to remember that a pattern can be quite visually stimulating on its own so think about keeping the colour palette on the simple side.

5. Interesting necklines. Points Of Interest… Am I starting to sound like a broken record yet? Tops with detail in the neckline or chest area can really help to add polish to a headshot.
